WATCH THE FOURTH OF JULY FIREWORKS from the Christ Church Upper parking lot while enjoying the Ice Cream Sundae Bar ($3) served up by Chef Gary and Roundtable Ministries from 8:00-9:30 p.m.  

LOOKING AHEAD 

MOMS meet Tuesday, July 8, at 9:30 a.m. at the South Parking Lot to go to Shared Acre Farms. Bring Lunch for you and your kids and get ready to enjoy a day of outdoor play. Directions provided upon leaving. 

The Chapel Choir and Senior High Youth Group have been hard at work preparing for Choir Tour/Work Camp 2008. 

  • Choir Tour 2008 will kick-off with their Send-Off Concert on Wednesday, July 9, at 7:30 p.m. in the Sanctuary. The tour is titled “God’s Love Never Fails”.
  • The next morning they will depart for churches and a nursing home in Columbus, OH; Findlay, OH; and Hamburg NY, along with a free day stop at Cedar Point in Ohio.
  • After tour, most senior high choir members will meet up with other senior high youth group members and advisors in Buffalo, NY to participate in Work Camp 2008.  They will work with the Niagara Frontier Asbury Shalom Zone and will be staying at the Harvest House in downtown Buffalo.

Please remember these young adults and their advisors, who will be on Choir Tour from July 10-14 and at Senior High Work Camp from July 14-19, keeping them in your prayers.  We hope to see you at the Send-Off Concert!

LOOKING AHEAD 

WELCOME DINNER for Rev. Cindy Schneider and Rev. Bill Beatty is Wednesday, July 16 at 6:15 p.m. in the Christian Life Center.  Please join us in welcoming Cindy as well as Bill, Lori, and daughters Rachel and Eliana to the Christ Church family. Menu is BBQ Chicken Breast, Potato Wedges, Corn and Dessert. Cost is $7/adults and $4/children. Please sign the blue insert to attend. 

GAME DAY-Come and bring a friend and a favorite game (cards, scrabble, etc.) to the Otterbein Room Thursday, July 17 from 9:30-11:30 a.m. for a fun, fellowship morning. For more information, please call Sally Lewis x10. RSVP on the blue insert.  

CONCERT AND COFFEEHOUSE featuring the 11:01 Band with Suzie Ackerman in the CLC is Saturday, July 19 from 7:30-9:00 p.m. $5 cover charge includes beverages & snacks. Desserts are available for a small fee. Open to the community! Come and help our Single Adult Ministry (SAM) kick off their 25th year celebration!!!!! 

ALL-CHURCH BEACH PARTY PICNIC-Saturday, July 26 from 5:00-8:00 p.m.  Come to the CLC and church grounds for a fun, evening of summer time fun. Games and food for all ages. Chef Gary will be serving up Pulled Pork and Salad fixings plus Dessert. (Hot dogs for the kids.) Please sign the blue insert to attend.  

STAFF POSITIONS AVAILABLE 

ROUNDTABLE HOSPITALITY COORDINATOR-Part of the Christ Church Round Table Ministry, this position organizes and coordinates all meals from beverage tables to breakfasts, luncheons, dinners, baptism lunches, wedding receptions and funeral memorials. The successful candidate for this position needs to be people-oriented with strong organizational skills. Contact Cindy Olszewski at the Church office at 412-835-6621 for more information. 

PROGRAM ASSISTANT NEEDED-One to two days per week from 8:30 a.m.- 3:30 p.m. Assist staff in creating a fun, pleasant day for our elderly clients. Call Mary Ann Weber, PRIME TIME Director, at 412-835-6661. 

MEDIA COORDINATOR-Part-time position responsible for preparing and operating the media (audio, visual, lighting and digital media) for worship services. Additional duties include media assistance for classes and workshops, creative input to worship teams and train and organize a volunteer technical team. OPPORTUNITIES 

GOING ON VACATION THIS SUMMER?  While you’re away, why not take the opportunity to worship in a different setting? Then, let the church staff know about your experience!  We would appreciate your observations and copies of worship bulletins from other churches.  Just stop by the church office Monday-Friday between 8:30 a.m.- 4:30 p.m.   

HAVE YOU BEEN INSPIRED on a Sunday morning by the Chapel Choir?  Ever witness the life changing experience of a work camp?  Consider making a contribution to support this year’s Choir Tour to the Midwest and work camp to Buffalo, NY.  Designate your gift “choir tour/ work camp” and support these transformational ministries! 

SUMMER SERVICE OFFERING-A men’s small group in the church is taking requests for help with summer grass cutting. They are willing to cut a few yards each week. If you are in need or know of someone if need, please call Lois Slocum at x53. 

OFFICE HELP! Have you ever wondered what exactly goes on in the church office? Well now is your chance to find out. We are currently looking for someone to spend a few hours a day either in the morning or afternoon to help answer phones, do light mailings, and just be a friendly face to visitors.  If you are interested in volunteering your gift of hospitality, please call Sandy Danley at x14 or sign the blue sheet.

DO YOU LIKE TO PLAN PARTIES? Like to help people feel welcome? Consider joining the Fellowship Team. Events such as the all-church picnic, game night, and hoedown can serve as entry points for visitors into the life of Christ Church as well as opportunities for long time members to stay connected and have fun at church. DO YOU PLAY THE PIANO AND ENJOY BEING WITH CHILDREN? The music ministry is looking for volunteer accompanists for children’s choirs. Intermediate playing ability is needed. Children’s choirs rehearse on Wednesday afternoons 4:30-5:30 p.m. and the choirs sing in worship about once a month. If you are interested in being part of this exciting ministry and helping to make a positive impact on children’s musical and spiritual lives, please call Linda Williams at x21.  

CHILDREN AND YOUTH ANNOUNCEMENTS 

TODAY IS FAMILY WORSHIP.  All children are invited to attend worship with their family.  Nursery care provided for infants and toddlers.

  • Come enjoy food and fellowship at A.L.F.- "Almost Lunch, Free" Meet at Gregg and Anna's office on the listed Tuesdays from 11:00a.m.-1:00 p.m. for an almost free lunch. Bring $3 and we'll cover the rest! The dates are July 8, July 29, August 5 and August 12.
  • WILD, WACKY WEDNESDAYS-Lookin' for something to do? We've got an offer you can't refuse! Join us for trips of all sorts, all you need is $10 and a dream! Join us in the Youth Center from 10:00a.m.-4:00p.m. on the following Wednesdays this summer for a new surprise activity each week. The dates are July 30 and August 13.

CONFIRMATION’S NEXT STEP-Calling all confirmands from the 2008 class!  Mark your calendars for July 20 & 27 and August 3 & 10. Come to Christ Church (Room B113) from 10:30-11:30 a.m. for The Next Step, a fellowship and learning experience just for you!  Come to any or all of the events to re-connect with your friends from confirmation and to learn how Christ Church can support you as you continue in your faith journey.  Questions? AHOY MATIES!  VBS pirate ship is set to sail July 21-25, 9:30-noon.  All hearty pirates, age 3 through grade 6, should be on deck!  Registration forms are available on the Information Tables. Adult and youth help is needed.  Call Sue Irwin at x 41 to volunteer. Craft and snack items needed are card board tubes, plain colored felt and cotton material, empty water bottles with lids, washable markers, poster board, construction paper, small empty plastic margarine tubs, pony beads, craft feathers, gold fish crackers, vanilla wafers, Swedish fish, pretzel rods, rolls of paper towels, Cheerios, Fruit Loops cereal.  Monetary donations are always appreciated.

POST HIGHS 

POST-HIGH LUNCH BUNCH gathering will be Sunday, July 6 at 11:45 a.m.  in the Library. All Post-Highs (ages 18-23) are invited to come for food, fun and fellowship.  Renew friendships and meet new people. Questions? Call Peggy O or Sandy Danley at 412-835-6621. 

TRIP TO JUMONVILLE-Mark your calendars! All post-highs are invited to participate in a trip to Jumonville on Sunday, July 27. Departure is at noon and return by 7:00 p.m. Come to spend a relaxing and inspiring time at one of our favorite places! Enjoy the beauty of Jumonville, have a fun afternoon and spend some time getting ready for Post-high Sunday!  Reservations are needed. Please call Peggy O or Sandy Danley at 412-835-6621 before July 20.  Cost? $15. 

MISSION TRIP-All post-highs are invited in a mission trip to 8th Avenue on Saturday, August 2 from 1:00-7:00 p.m. Mark your calendars.

COUPLES MINISTRY 

PENNSYLVANIA TROLLEY MUSEUM Sunday, July 13!-Trolleys were an integral part of the growth of the Pittsburgh Suburbs. Join us for this informative tour about our local area history. Meet at church at 2:00 or at the museum at 2:45 for our 3:00 p.m. tour. We’ll head over to Sarris Candy afterwards for ice cream. Cost of the tour is $7.50adults/$6.50 for over 62. LET’S ALL GO TO THE BALL GAME-THE WASHINGTON WILD THINGS on Tuesday, August 12. Game time is 7:05. Game tickets are $7 per person.  Please sign the blue insert to RSVP. 

WIZARD OF OZ-Carousel Dinner Theater, Akron, Ohio –Were’ off to see the Wizard at the Saturday noon matinee. Cost is $52 per person plus tax and includes lunch. The drive to Carousel is just over 2 hours, for those who would like to come back the same day. We’re working on a nearby hotel for those who would like to make this an overnight trip.
